Noam, What are the origins of the Maori ?

The Maori civilizations arrived in New Zealand to 900-1000. The story of the  « people on earth » register in the myths of the foundation, formed in the long genealogy of ancestors. Hay 79 traditional tribes (iwi) divided into sud tribe (hapu) and family (whanau)...

What are the custom of the Maori ? Their lifestyle ?

The Maori believe in gods, the life force (mauri)...                                                                                              Tangaroa represents the element of water ( fish, ocean ...). Tane represents the element of forest, the birds...and Rongo represents the element of earth (agriculture, plants...).                                                                                                   The Maori are very close to nature, they believe the spiritual power ( tapu, mana). However with the strong urbanization, the Maori became a minority.

What is the typical food in New-Zealand ?

The eel was a staple food for the Maori people. The cheese is also very typical of New Zealand, the most typical are the double cream, blue,chaddar and the camembert with apricot. Kiwi rest a symbol of New Zealand, it’s very delicious.                That is the main food of New Zealand.
